Hypervisors, or virtual machine monitors (VMM), are software layers that enable the separation of an operating system (OS) and its associated resources from the underlying physical hardware. Their primary function is to create and manage virtual machines (VMs), each running its own OS, while preventing interference among them. This innovative technology optimizes resource utilization and minimizes the need for physical servers.
Hypervisors have revolutionized the IT landscape by enabling the efficient use of computing resources, cost savings, and enhanced system stability. Whether in data centers, cloud computing, or development and testing environments, their versatility makes them a vital component of modern technology solutions.

There are two primary types of hypervisors:
A Type 1 hypervisor, also known as a native or bare-metal hypervisor, is installed directly onto the physical hardware of a computer, and it does not require a pre-existing host operating system.
It effectively serves as the primary operating system, with the ability to directly allocate hardware resources to various virtual machines.
In contrast, a Type 2 hypervisor, also known as an embedded or hosted hypervisor, functions as a software layer that runs within a host operating system.
It acts as an application that provides virtualization services, but it does not interact with the computer hardware directly. Instead, it operates at a level above the host OS, which manages the actual hardware.
As a result, there can be additional latency and potential security vulnerabilities since the hypervisor relies on the host OS to manage and allocate resources to the virtual machines.
